Going Green – Saving Money With Green Energy

0 Comments 30 April 2012

Going Green – Saving Money sounds like a big come-on, doesn’t it? Well, it is not. And the good news, is I can prove it. I can put my money where my mouth is…in fact, I already did. And it turns out I am saving money on my electric bill! That is not an easy thing to do in this economy, but every month I am saving as much as 30 percent on my electric bill and now my electric power comes from renewable green energy sources and I did not spend a dime to change over to solar or wind power.

How Can I Use A Green Power Source

How can I save money and go green? Let me show you. This only took me two minutes of my time. A few minutes to learn how to save up to 20 or 25 percent a month on your electric bill?

Have you wanted to live a green life style but just did not know how to take advantage of renewable energy sources? I understand because that was what I wanted too. I did not know how to live a greener life style so I just kept on recycling my cans, glass and papers. I felt like, big deal, I want to make an impact and though I know recycling is a good thing, it did not feel like I was doing enough. After all the environment is calling out for help. Our Planet and its resources are in danger and our future generations need our help.

You do not have to set up solar panels or put a wind farm in your backyard to use power from renewable energy sources. In fact with electric deregulation we can now decide where we want our energy to come from. You get to choose, fossil fuels or clean green renewable energy sources…which would you pick?

Of course you would choose green, most people would. Only those die-hard types who refuse to admit we have a crisis situation with regard to the Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming would not choose to go green. Even if all the evidence we have that points to Global Warming was incorrect, why wouldn’t someone want to use renewable energy as compared to fossil fuel sources which will run out and are pollutants? That just does not make sense. And that is exactly how to save money and to go green, by choosing a third party energy supplier who delivers energy from green sources.

So let us all begin to make sense today. Please, do not take my word for it…after all, you do not know me. I am just someone who put words on a web site. You will, after you check out what I am saying, trust me and you will also thank me…just like I thank the person who pointed me in this new, exciting directions with this Green Energy Source.

I actually looked into getting Solar Panels on my house a year or so ago. The government was offering a huge rebate and I thought that would be a great way to start going green saving money also came into play. But it was so expensive initially to purchase and install the panels that I gave up on that renewable energy idea very quickly. I am just an average Jill and do not have tens of thousands of dollars to set up an energy source…even if I am all for the idea and want to do it. If I had the funding I would have…but I do not. I was disappointed too. But you know they say, “When one door closes, another opens” and I believe that the Solar panel door shut because this new FREE Go Green solution was coming my way. And I am thankful is every Green way that it did.

So do not take my word for it, see for yourself, get the facts, investigate and when you are done, I will see you on the other side…The GREEN Side. And not only will you trust me, you will thank me and I in turn will Thank You for being smart enough to look into this wonderful Go Green Idea. Today we can choose our energy service provider and that means we can also choose the type of energy our providers deliver to us. That is how you can go green right now and when you do the math you will see it will be cheaper for you too.

If you live in New Jersey, New York, Connectitcut, Maryland or Illinois, you can switch over to green energy today. If you live in the other states you will be able to switch over soon. Find out more about this money saving energy plan so you can save money and go green too.

Going Green-Saving Money with Green Energy Sources. http://iamgreenenergy.com is the way for you to use green energy, save money and it is free…it also only takes two minutes. Find a way to go green without installing expensive alternate renewable power sources. Free is the key word, Green is another…haven’t you wanted to become less dependent on fossil fuel sources? Well now you can and it is easy, free and HONEST.

Please, do yourself a favor…just take the extra step to find out if what I am saying is the truth. http://www.iamgreenenergy.com Check it out today. No money, no cost, No contracts, NO LIES…Please feel free to comment at my article source if you are not satisfied about what I am telling you.

If I sound corny in this article it is because I am so from my head to my toes excited to finally be able to go green and save money without having to spend a fortune to do so. I love this idea and I am sure you will too. Here’s to you, my new Green friend!

A Truly Alternative Source of Energy

0 Comments 13 December 2011

Much debate takes place on a daily basis about global warming, whether it exists, how to deal with it and the use of alternative energy sources in the future. Despite massive safety concerns a consensus seemed to have developed with nuclear power chosen as the way forward. A tsunami in Japan and subsequent events at the Fukushima Power Plant may have destroyed that consensus and forced everybody to think again.

There is little doubt that change must occur. The production of energy using fossil fuel resources will not be possible for very much longer because world resources are seriously depleted and the pollution produced is no longer deemed to be acceptable.

Unless alternative technology can be developed, long distance travel using aircraft (and maybe even cars) might be a thing of the past. This is luxury that the majority of the earth’s population do not enjoy and neither did our quite recent ancestors. It will not be seriously missed especially in the age of broadband internet when conference calls involving colleagues from different continents take place daily.

We all want to maintain a reasonable standard of living and it will be necessary to cook food, keep the lights on, keep our homes heated and our computers running. This should easily be possible as long as common sense efficiency savings are made and I predict that before long, all homes will have discreet solar energy units installed. Much more energy could be produced by burning waste but I don’t seriously think we will be subjected to a wind turbine per property. They are ugly, noisy, inefficient and, except in certain locations, are more trouble than they’re worth.

I know of a much neglected source of energy which is free, efficient, readily available and does not have any nasty bi-products or cause any pollution. It is the oldest form of energy in existence and has been used throughout history.

I regularly visit a gym and observe many, many people hard at work on exercise machines such as bikes, rowing machines, cross- trainers and treadmills. It would be very easy to adapt an exercise bike so that it drives a generator and the energy produced could either be stored or put to use. I estimate that an average person could produce enough energy to power a light bulb, a TV or a PC. This energy is being produced right now and is going to waste.

Perhaps, on a trial basis, some exercise bikes could be adapted and used to contribute to providing the energy for a hospital or an old people’s home. Volunteers could be sought and any participants (the organisers would be inundated) would be both serving the community and keeping themselves fit. The scheme could be expanded and if enough volunteers were found, could easily provide a significant source of energy throughout the country.

With our rising prison population and the resultant increase in cost, many offenders are given community based sentences. Maybe some offenders could be asked to pay for their crimes by making a contribution to their society’s energy requirements and spending some time on an exercise bike. The vast majority of people (especially young people) could generate electricity, serve their community and improve their health and fitness in the process. Perhaps it could also be a way of giving benefit claimants some gainful employment. Our growing obesity problem needs to be addressed too and this could help to provide a solution.

This truly is an alternative source of energy.

There are only two Richard Burtons

0 Comments 30 November 2011

A famous chant involves supporters singing the praises of their star player to the tune of “Guantanamera.” My first memory of it involved the Manchester City supporters in the late Seventies singing “there’s only one Kazy Deyna” about a Polish international player who played for them briefly.

Most people have a namesake and most people can describe the good and bad antics of somebody with the same name as them. A few people liven up the lives of their contemporaries with tales of a famous namesake and some actually change their name by deed poll to do this. Very few celebrities actually share the same name as each other because prospective candidates rightly don’t want to limit their career chances and usually adopt a suitable stage name at the earliest opportunity. Richard Burton is an exception to this rule.

Chronologically the second but probably the most famous Richard Burton was a Welsh actor who was nominated for an Oscar seven times without ever winning. His film roles included The Robe, The Spy who Came in from the Cold, Look Back in Anger, Becket and 1984. He also starred in Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolfe with Elizabeth Taylor and they were married on two separate occasions. This Richard Burton is probably best known for his heavy drinking, his womanising and his tempestuous, on-off relationship with Ms. Taylor who he met on the set of Cleopatra. He also had a successful stage career on both sides of the Atlantic and died in 1985 aged 58.

The other Richard Burton was far more interesting. He was a Victorian explorer who led a life that made Indiana Jones seem like a quiet and retiring chap. Richard Francis Burton travelled in disguise to Mecca and Medina to become one of the first non-Muslim Europeans to make and give a detailed description of the pilgrimage known as the Hajj. He led various expeditions to Africa on behalf of the Royal Geographical Society, explored the Great Lakes and attempted to locate the source of the River Nile. In 1858, this Richard Burton and his partner John Hanning Speke, discovered both Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria and the subsequent public quarrel about their adventures entertained Victorian society. Burton and Speke were due to publicly debate the subject but unfortunately Speke was killed in a tragic accident the day before.

This Richard Burton was a prodigious and erudite author who wrote articles and books on a wide range of diverse topics including travel, human behavior, falconry, fencing and ethnography. He was a renowned linguist who spoke approximately thirty European, Asian and African languages. This Richard Burton was responsible for the first full translations of both the “The Arabian Nights” and “The Karma Sutra” into English.

Richard Francis Burton served as British Consul to Fernando Po, Damascus, Santos and Triesteand was awarded a Knighthood in 1886. He died of a heart attack aged 69 in 1890 and is buried alongside his devoted wife Isabel at St Mary Magdalen’s Church in Mortlake near London. His remarkable tomb is the shape of a Bedouin tent and is a fitting tribute to his extraordinary life. It is well worth a visit.

1984 – The book and the film

0 Comments 31 August 2011

This famous book was written by George Orwell and was first published in 1949. It describes a totalitarian society of the future where everything and everybody is controlled by Big Brother and the Party. Winston Smith works at the Ministry of Truth rewriting old newspaper stories written mainly about people involved in the continual war being fought. When he embarks on a brief affair with fellow Party member Julia, Winston discovers that life might have a purpose after all and it opens his eyes to various new possibilities. Despite overwhelming odds and constant danger, Winston and Julia continue their affair, they begin to form their own views, begin to question the Party and are subsequently made aware of a conspiracy called The Brotherhood. Unfortunately for them, Big Brother will not tolerate any dissent even in the mind and anybody guilty of Thought Crime must enter Room 101.

In the book, Orwell introduced concepts and phrases which have become widely recognised and widely used today such as Big Brother, Room 101 and even Thought Crime. He predicted the National Lottery too.

All books are open to personal interpretation but most readers will recognise, amongst other things his prediction of political correctness, the war on terror and the influence of a large screen in each room.

I have read and re-read this book many times, it works on many different levels and can be interpreted in so many different ways. It is a fascinating story of an individual and his relationship with a large organisation and each time I read it I discover something new. It’s just as relevant today as on the day it was published

Obviously, a film version was always going to be released in 1984 and it starred John Hurt at the height of his fame and Richard Burton in his last role. Some familiar faces from TV also appear including Gregor Fisher later to star in Rab C Nesbit and Roger Lloyd Pack from Only Fools and Horses. Like most films of books it struggles to convey some of the subtleties of the original although the producers avoid the temptation to rewrite a revered text for the sake of convenience. The subject matter dealt with is hardly a laugh a minute and the film version is pretty grim fare but it tells the story of Winston Smith in a reasonable way and makes most of the important points.

Maybe an appearance by Mary Nesbit or Del Boy might’ve livened up proceedings. Probably not.

The Boys from Brazil

0 Comments 31 July 2011

At first glance, “The Boys of Brazil” seemed to deal with unusual subject matter, it seemed to come with a high pedigree and as a result I was initially expecting a great deal. Top notch stars such as Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier further whetted my appetite and I knew that Director Franklin J. Schaffner had a proven track record with titles such as “Papillon,” “Patton” and the original “Planet of the Apes.” “Welcome Home” starring Jane Fonda and John Voigt is another career highlight and another particular favorite of mine.

Originally released in 1978 and based on a book by Ira Levin, I saw the film as a teenager although it didn’t particularly stick in my mind. When I noticed a recent re-run in the terrestrial TV schedules I decided to do some reminiscing.

While attempting to explore a controversial topic, it proved to be an effective although ultimately shallow and unsatisfying thriller involving a Nazi cloning plot organized by Dr Joseph Mengele. Death camp Doctor Mengele, who performed infamous concentration camp experiments in attempts to develop a superior Aryan race, is now exiled in South America and still pursuing his dream of a Fourth Reich. Gregory Peck is excellent as Dr Mengele as is Laurence Olivier as a Simon Wiesenthal type professional Nazi Hunter, Ezra Lieberman, who hears of and then attempts to foil the plot. Other famous faces featured include an underused James Mason, a young Steve Guttenberg, Lili Palmer and Denholm Elliot. Watch out for Prunella Scales a.k.a. Sybill Fawlty too.

The scientifically possible but very improbable plot might hinder your enjoyment but the two main stars, high profile director and the quality cast live up to their reputations and provide good value for money although everybody involved has done much better.

In many ways this is a wasted opportunity and I personally was looking for something with more depth. No real attempt was made to address the legal, ethical or scientific aspects of cloning and the age old nature or nurture question concerning child development was hinted at but not fully explored.

It might be useful as a sixth form vehicle to provoke a discussion on cloning and associated topics such as GM food but my original appraisal from thirty plus years ago turned out to be highly accurate. Maybe I was a reasonably cultured teenager after all.

Is it time to play the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and Clash albums again?

Anyone for “Cranked Up Really High” by Slaughter and the Dogs?

Work Smart not Hard

0 Comments 08 April 2011

Every employee in the world is aware of an often stated but simple fact.

In any line of business you will be paid the lowest possible amount that your employer can get away with.

It is true now always has been.

There are very few strong unions around these days to defend your interests and you now have to wait two years before receiving the employment protection you used to get after six months. If you don’t co-operate there are many, many others waiting to replace you, usually for less money. If you protest, you can forget the promotion.

Many people opt for security rather than a good wage especially in difficult economic times. You can stay where you are and defend your record at your annual review and there is nothing wrong with that

If you want more money, you will have to build your CV and start looking around. You will probably have to swallow your pride, volunteer for projects, take extra responsibility, and make suggestions. However, think about the ratio of senior managers to other staff at your place, it could be anywhere up to 1:200. Assuming you have the education, background, ability, contacts and good luck, these are your odds of making that kind of money. How long are you prepared to wait though? By the time you start making decent money you’re too old to enjoy it. You need the cash now to raise a family, build a home, go on holiday etc

If anybody says that this point of view is cynical and negative. Be very careful. They are trying to exploit you!

You are unlikely to make good money working for someone else.

This is another simple fact, which is often denied for the same of convenience. We all need to face up this fact as soon as possible.

Have you ever thought working for yourself or starting up your own business. Have you learnt any skills from your employer that you can apply elsewhere? Are there any ideas that would work but which they have refused implement? Can you do what your employer does cheaper?

Many people have made money by investing in property. What about an on-line, website based business? Some people make excellent profits from investments. I personally can’t distinguish between the stock market and traditional bookmakers, casinos etc. Either way you must be a sophisticated investor and use a system.

Talk to your friends. Keep your eyes and ears open. Maybe you can join together and start something? Think about your interests and what you already know.

Keep these questions in mind and ideas will come.

The Advantages of Installing a Solar System to Generate Electricity

0 Comments 15 December 2010

Alternative energy technology such as solar power, wind power or a biomass heaters offer an alternative to fossil fuels and will help you reduce the carbon dioxide you emit from your home.

Most people don’t realise that investing in alternative energy can produce financial benefits too. In effect, you can purchase energy at today’s prices and use it in the future when prices will be much greater.

Before you start tough, it is important that you minimise energy you require by ensuring that your home is fully insulated and by using energy efficient lighting and electrical appliances throughout.

Once the decision is made, installing alternative technology is really no more complicated than any other home improvement but make sure you do your research thoroughly.

Things to consider include:

- What sort of technology is best suited for your individual circumstances?
- Are you interested in generating electricity or providing heating?
- What size system will suit your needs?
- Which installer will you use and how will you pay for it?
- Investigate possible sources of funding because grants are available
- Will you need planning permission?

Make sure that the installer you choose is certified either with the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (in the UK) or the Solar Keymark (throughout Europe)

Let us assume that you have made your decision and after some thorough research have decided to install a solar system to generate electricity.

Solar electricity systems capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells. The cells convert sunlight into electricity which can then be used to run household appliances. PV cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can still generate electricity on a cloudy day. They are usually panels that can be attached to your roof or walls. Each cell is made from a semi-conducting material, usually silicon and when light shines on the cell electricity is produced. PV cells come in a variety of shapes and colours, from grey tiles that look like normal roof tiles to panels and transparent cells that can bed used on conservatories. The strength of a PV cell is measured in kilowatts (KW) and the figure quoted is the amount of energy the cell generates in full sunlight.

Solar electricity is green, renewable energy and it doesn’t release any harmful carbon dioxide (or any other pollutant) into the atmosphere. A typical home PV system could save around one tonne of carbon dioxide per year and it should last for about twenty five years.

Sunshine is free, so once you’ve paid the initial installation costs your electricity costs should be greatly reduced. A typical home PV system can produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year. If your system is producing more electricity than you need you could make some money by selling your energy to the national grid.

A south facing roof or wall will be needed that isn’t overshadowed by large trees or large buildings. Solar panels are not light and the roof must be strong enough to take their weight. In the UK, you won’t need planning permission for most home solar electricity systems, as long as they are less than a certain size. Please check with your local planning officer to make sure.

The cost of installing a solar electricity system can vary. An average system rated at 2.2 KW costs around £12,000. Solar electricity systems generally cost in the range of £5000 to £8,000 per KW although this should decrease as system size increases. Remember, the more electricity your system can generate, the more it will cost but the more it could save. Solar tiles cost more than conventional panels and panels built into a roof are more expensive than those that sit on top.

Savings can be considerable. A 2.2 KW system can generate around 40% of a household’s yearly electricity needs. If the system is eligible to receive the Feed In Tariffs (FITs) it could generate savings and income of around £900 per year. Don’t forget the 1 tonne of carbon dioxide emissions saved per year.

Maintenance is generally small. You will need to keep the panels clean and make sure trees don’t begin to overshadow them.

Some companies are now offering free solar PV to customers in return for the income generated through FITs.

Rugby League

0 Comments 15 December 2010

This article discusses a sport that many of you will be unfamiliar with. It is popular around the world but those from the United States are unlikely to have heard of it although the USA does have a national team.

History

Rugby League is a very popular spectator sport in England, Australia and New Zealand but is also played in many other nations. It is very similar to Rugby Union. In fact, the rules of Rugby League were created in 19th Century England as a split from the Rugby Football Union. Unlike in American Football, players do not wear protective gear and consequently rugby league is a highly dangerous game. This also makes it great fun to watch.

Rules

The aim of the game is to get the ball past the other side’s goal line (similar to a touchdown zone in American Football). Instead of a touchdown this is called a try and is worth 4 points. 2 points are awarded if a goal is scored and after scoring a try, the team has the chance to convert a goal. Goals can also be scored in the normal run of play by half volleying the ball between the goal bars. Each game lasts for 80 minutes and each team has 6 tackles or downs to aim to score a try. Unlike in American Football, players can only pass backwards not forwards. Only the player holding the ball is allowed to be tackled by the defending team. If the ball is dropped onto the ground by the attacking team then play immediately switches known as a handover and the defending team gets to attack. Not only do fans like to watch the games but some punters also enjoy rugby league betting.

Competitions

Aside from the rugby league world cup, the rugby league four nations is probably the most famous international tournament.

Four Nations betting fever takes over Australia during the tournament. In 2011 the four teams competing will be Australia, England, New Zealand and Wales. Notable domestic competitions include the European Super League for club teams and the Austalian NRL.

I recommend “The Testament” by John Grisham

0 Comments 04 December 2010

The time has come for us all to think about lying on a beach with some suitable reading matter. I recommend this. It will provide ideal entertainment for anybody trying to relax during the summer and it is tinged with enough wisdom to enrich the minds of anybody looking for more.

I admit I am a big fan of John Grisham and “The Testament” was the first book of his that I read. I was immediately addicted and I have now read the majority of his novels although this one is still my favourite. As with all his books, it has a fast moving plot and works as a terrific thriller in a legal setting but it is still able to show the author’s world weary contempt for his former profession and all it represents.

The story concerns an elderly billionaire who, tired of life, draws up a new will then promptly commits suicide. The new will leaves his fortune to a previously unknown, illegitimate daughter and this destroys the hopes and dreams of his entire family including three ex-wives and numerous children.

Legal challenges take place and a search is launched for the missing daughter but the story really concerns the contrasting stories of Nate O’Reilly and Rachel Lane. Nate is the ex-drug addict, recovering alcoholic lawyer dealing with the case while Rachel is the missionary working in Brazil with no knowledge of her inheritance. Through them Grisham conveys his thoughts on the pursuit of money and the meaning of real wealth.

Enjoy your reading.
